Another great trip to end the 2011 season with the Hagman. Today we caught 45 crappie, including 11 keepers! All fish came in 12ft-25ft of water. Thanks for a great year Jerry, can’t wait to do it again next year!Fun day on the lake yesterday with two great clients. Caught between 25-30 crappie with 8 big keepers in 3 hours! Thanks for a great time guys!Today I fished with Jon, Jarrod, Josh and Moo. Fishing for bass we had a great day with 15, including several 2lb-3.5lb. All fish were caught on crankbaits. Thanks for a great time guys! Merry Christmas!Today BCGS guide William Brown went out for a day of fun fishing. He had a great day with 30-40 crappie, including 15 keepers! Fishing for bass from 11:30am-4pm we had a great day with between 15-20 bass including several nice largmouths. All fish were caught on crankbaits in 1ft-6ft of water. Thanks for a great time guys!Today I fished with the Hagman. Fishing for crappie we had a great day…..although we only caught 30 crappie with 6 keepers. We spent most the time fishing schools of bait in 25 ft of water catching hybrids and largemouth bass. I finally got Jerry holding up bass with a smile, although I believe he was imagining two 3lb crappie! What another great day……….Thanks Jerry. And thanks to Fight Line for allowing us to reel in these 8lb hybrid with 6lb line on a 5″ crappie rod!Today I fished with Donna and Chris. Fishing for bass we had a good day with around 8 during the three hours we were out. The rain made fishing a little difficult, but we had a good time chasing the bait and bass. After the trip was over I went back out to see if I could catch a few more……and boy am I glad I did. During the next hour I caught around 15 with 7 keepers, including one 5lb! My best five went around 14lbs. All fish were caught on crankbaits in 1ft-8ft of water. All pictures are of different fish.Today Chris and David came out again from Smyrna, TN. We started the day fishing with jiggin spoons, catching several white bass, hybrids and yellow bass. After an hour we switched over to crappie and caught a few on shallow trees…..the deeper trees in 18ft-20ft were not producing much. The last hour we fished for bass and caught several, including these two beauties! Thanks for another great time guys!Today I fished with Chris and David from Smyrna, TN. Fishing for both crappie and bass we had a tough day fighting the wind. We caught less than 10 bass, mostly small fish and around 15 crappie, including 7 keepers. We had great time on the water, but nevertheless it was tough fishing. At the end of the trip we ran into this 7+ largemouth though!Today I fished with John Devualt. Fishing for bass we had a tough morning with only 2 fish the first five hours. After making a run to the opposite end of the lake and figuring out a productive patter, the last few hours went great with over 30 bass. All fish we caught on topwater, crankbaits and swimbaits. Thanks for another great time on the water John!Today I fished with one of my good friends. Fishing for bass we had a good day with around 15, including several nice keepers. It was a tough bite, we had to move around a lot, but were able to find some good fish using crankbaits and soft plastics.Yesterday I fished with the Hagman again. We had another wonderful time on the water with over 55 crappie, including almost 20 keepers! Thanks for another great day on the water Jerry!Saturday I fished with Bill Creger. Fishing for bass the first 5 hours, we caught around 15 largemouths, with several nice ones. Most of our fish were caught on crankbaits. The remaining 3 hours of our trip we fished for crappie and caught over 25, with several nice keepers for him to take home. Thanks for a great time Bill!Yesterday I fished with Hassan and David from Nashville. Fishing from 2:15pm-6:30pm, we caught over 50 bass! All fish caught on crankbaits and jiggin spoons. Fishing for bass and crappie, we had a great trip with over a dozen keeper crappie in just two hours and serveal nice bass caught on jiggin spoons. Thanks for a great time guys!Today I fished with Bob and Chase from Nashville. We had a great day with around a dozen bass, including this beauty! All fish we caught on shaky heads and jigs. Great job Chase!Today I fished with Tom an Bill from Nashville. Tom and Barry are long time friends that told story after story of working and fishing together over 40 years. I thoroughly enjoyed fishing with these gentlemen and hope to fish with them again sometime. As for the fishing, we caught over 50 crappie, including 20 keepers! Thanks for a great day guys.Today BCGS guide Jacob Jewell fished with Mike Willy from New Braunfels, TX. Fishing for bass they had a good trip with over a dozen largemouths. Most of the fish were caught on shaky haeds, including this nice 2.5lb bass. Glad to hear that you guys had a great time on the water!Today I fished with the Mullers from 2:30pm-dark. We started the trip fishing for crappie. After catching around 20, including 9 keepers in the first hour, we switched over to bass. Casting crankbaits and rattle traps, we caught around 10 largemouths. Below is Ben hold the largest bass…..he caught this 2lb+ on his last cast of the trip!Today I fished with Bob and Wes from Nashville. We started the morning fishing for crappie. After several nice slabs and several short fish, we switched over to bass to see if we could catch some bigger fish. We were able to find some active bass and caught around a dozen, including this 2.5lb and 3.5lb largemouth! Thanks for a great time on the water guys!Today I fished with the one and only Jerry “The Hagman” Haglage from Nashville, TN. As you probably know, Jerry is a great client of mine and an even better friend. We have been fishing together for over 5 years and each trip we create another great memory. We have had amazing crappie success on Percy Priest, but today we reset the bar. During the 7 hours we fished, we caught 110 crappie! Out of the 110 crappie, we had almost 30 keepers(and again some giant 14″ slabs)! The morning produced a lot of keepers and the afternoon a lot of short fish, but nevertheless we caught a ton of fish. Thanks for another memorable day on the water Jerry!Monday I fished with Charlie, Vicky and Daniel Wendt. Fishing for crappie we had a great day with around 35, including 12 keepers! We also had serveral 13″ and 14″ crappie! All fish were caught in 15ft-22ft of water on minnows. Thanks for another great time on the water guys!Friday I fished with Kurt and Don from Smyrna, TN. Fishing for bass we caught around 15, including several decent ones. The fishing was tough with the high NE winds, but we did manage to find a few areas where the bass were active. Thanks for a great time guys!Yesterday I fished with Scooty and Battle. This was their third time out with BCGS and each time we have a blast together. Fishing for crappie we caught over 60, with just under 30 keepers! We found most of our catch in 15ft-20ft in brushpiles. Our bait of choice was minnows and jigs tipped with minnows. Fishing for bass we had a good day with around 15. We focused on fish that have moved into shallow water to feed on shad…..catching them on crankbaits, rattle traps and topwater baits. thanks for a wonderful time on the water guys!Saturday I participated in the 2011 “Nashville Clean Water Project – Percy Priest Lake”. We met at the US Army Corps of Engineer off Bell road(where we met Major Karl Dean)and was assigned a location to clean. There were dozens of participants, my group consist of three other helpers. We cleaned for several hours and collected over 12 bags of trash! What a great experience and great cause! I am happy to be a part of this project and will be participating in the spring 2012 event. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped, staff and US Army Corps.Yesterday BCGS guide, William Brown, fished with Dave and Mary from Missouri. Fishing for crappie they had a good day with over 30 crappie, including 15 keepers! All crappie were caught trolling and fishing brush piles with live bait. Nice stringer guys!Yesterday I fished with Jim and Beverly Small from Nashville, TN. Fishing for crappie we had a great trip with over 20, including 9 keepers! Most of our fish were caught on rattle traps and crankbaits, but we did catch several on topwater and jigs. Thanks for another fun time on the water John! Wednesday I fished with the Hagman, we caught near 60 crappie, including 24 keepers! All fish were caught in 10ft-20ft of water.Yesterday I fished with Jim Small and good friend Roy from Nashville. Fishing for crappie we had a good trip with several keepers, including a giant drum! Good to see you again Roy!Thursday I fished with two great guys. Fishing for bass we had a good day with around 15 bass. The bite was a little slow, but we did have some big bites. Ken(below) caught this 4lb largemouth, I lost a 4lb-5lb and Greg lost a 5+ fish. The rest of the fish were around 1lb-2lbs. All fish were caught on jigs and T-rig lizards on main lake ledges and points. All fish were caught on ledges down lake with jigging spoons. Nice fish guys!Yesterday I started the morning with Robert Lankford from Gallatin, TN. Fishing for crappie we had a great day with over 60 fish, including 25 keepers! All fish were caught on minnows in 13ft-20ft of water. Cheryl has been fishing Percy Priest Lake for a while now with no luck, so her daughters bought her a trip for her birthday. We had a great day with over 40 crappie, including 14 keepers! Thanks for an awesome time on the water guys.Saturday, BCGS guide, William Brown, fished with Brad and Joe Davis. They caught 35 fish, including 20 keepers! Their success came by jigging power baits and trolling crankbaits. Glad you guys had a fun trip!Yesterday evening, BCGS guide, Jacob Jewell, fished with the Wursters from Brentwood, TN. They started the trip chasing after bass with a few bites, but then switched over to jigging spoons and caught over 35 fish! Hybrids, bass, white bass were all in the mix of fish that they caught. Glad to see that you guys had such an exciting trip!Today I fished with the one and only Jerry the “Hagman” Haglage. Fishing for crappie we had a super day on the water. We caught 72 crappie, including just under 30 keepers! All fish were caught on minnows in brush piles. Between the cool 10mph breeze and listeing to the oldies stations while fishing, Jerry and I added another memorable trip to the history books.Today I fished with Steve and Matthew Starky from Bellevue, TN. Steve hired me to teach him the basics of fishing so he could go out and catch fish with his son. We started the morning bass fishing with shaky heads and caught several decent fish. Then we switched over to fishing jigging spoons and caught tons of yellow bass. Lastly, we crappie fished and caught several keepers. Fishing for bass and hybrids, they caught several bass, including a 4lb largemouth, a 6lb hybrid, and several smaller fish.Glad to hear you guys had a fun time with Jacob!Tuesday I fished with John Devault from Hendersonville, TN. Fishing for bass we had a great day with 15-18 fish, including 8 keepers for a five fish limit of 16lbs! We also lost several quality 3lb-4lb bass! This was their third time out me and each time we seem to add something to the record books. Each child has caught a 15″ crappie with me and received an award from the state and today Camble caught her biggest fish ever! Fishing for hybrids, we trolled humps and ledges down lake. We caught several nice fish including this 5 pounder, which was Camble’s biggest fish ever! Great jobs guys! Yesterday I fished with Alan and Brian from Selmer, TN. Fishing for bass we caught around 15-20. The majority of the fish were between 1lb-2lbs. All fish were caught on shaky heads. Thanks for a great wet day guys!Friday morning I started the day with Gary and Tylor Henderson from Smyrna, TN. Fishing for bass most of the trip and crappie the last hours, we caught around 15 bass with several nice keepers! We also caught around a dozen crappie, including a few giants slabs! Fishing for crappie we caught around 15, including more above average keepers. We also caught this giant 10lb catfish. What great memories we make out there Jim! See you next week! My final trip of the long(awesome) day of fishing was with Chris and David Dean. Fishing for crappie we had an amazing trip. After two hours and no bites we decided to troll for a while. Trollling crankbaits over points and humps we caught serveral smallmouth, incluing this giant, catfish and a few other fish. The last couple hours we switched over to crappie and caught a few nice slabs. Thanks for a great time today guys!Today I fished with Henry and Donna from Murfreesboro, TN. The majority of the keepers were between 12″ and 14″! It is weird how some days the big ones bite and other days the smaller ones bite……but I am not complaining. We started the afternoon fishing for crappie. The first 3 hours we caught over 30, including 16 keepers! At 6pm switched over to bass and started reeling them in. The first hour or more we caught around a dozen bass and giant hybrid feeding on baitfish. After the feeding frenzy slowed down, we moved around until we found some bass feeding on the main lake. Thanks for another great trip Tim!Today I fished with Stephen and Mathew Carr from Nashville. We started the morning bass fishing with a few here and there, but nothing like the evening before. So, we switch over to crappie and filled the boat! In three hours we cauhgt over 30, including 15 nice keepers! You did a great job today Mathew! Thanks guys.Yesterday evening I fished with Michael and Sky from Nashville. Fishing for bass we had a great trip. The first two hours were on fire, bass here, bass there, bass everywhere! We caught around 15 on crankbaits in 3ft-8ft of water. We had several 2lb and 3lb largemouths and lost a 5lb after he jumped and split the bait with a wink. They found morning success with surface lures and then crankbaits in the afternoon. Great job guys!Thursday night Jacob and I fished “Mikes Thursday Night Tournament” out of Fate Sanders Marina. Fishing from 6pm-10pm we managed to catch over 30 bass, including our limit, weighing 15.01lb….enough to take 2nd place!Today I fished from 7:30am – noon with Steven and Z from Hendersonville, TN. Fishing for crappie we had a great day with over 25, including 10 keepers! The majority of our fish came out of 8ft-14ft of water on minnows. We started the day fishing for crappie, but the bite was slow, so we switched over to bass and brim. Fishing with topwater baits and minnows we caught dozens of brim and around 15 bass. Gary reeled in several nice largemouth and I lucked into this 7lb hog in 1ft of water! Fishing for crappie they had an okay day with over 20 caught, including several keepers. Yawn, the youngest of the group, had the hot hand for the day, catching the majority of the fish, including the biggest! Yawn almost caught a giant 10lb catfish after a awesome 5 minute fight, but the catfish broke his line. Today I fished with Monta Ellis(NBA starting point guard with the Golden State Warriors), cousin Jarenta Ellis and friend Michael Johnson. Fishing for crappie we had a great day with over 35 crappie, including 18 keepers! We found the crappie in 8ft-20ft of water in brush piles. Thanks for a fun day on the water guys! Today I fished with Hans from Franklin, TN. Fishing for bass we had a great trip with over 30 bass. We caught some fish in 1ft of water on topwater baits and others in 8ft-12ft on jigs, shaky heads and crankbaits. Thanks for another great trip Hans!Saturday, BCGS guide, Jacob Jewell and his partner fished the Lions Club Charity tournament out of Fate Sanders Marina. The fish were active throughout the day, but you had to fish hard and wait for the big bites. Fishing with crankbaits, shaky heads and jigs, they brought in dozens of fish, including two giants………one 6lb largemouth and 4lb smallmouth! Their combined weight resulted in a 7th place finish! Good job guys!Today I fished with Doug Latimer from Houston, TX. Fishing for bass we had a great trip with over 30 in the boat. We caught tons of smallmouth, largemouth and spotted bass on jigs and shaky heads. I had a great time fishing with you Jim! The bass were a little reluctant to bite in the morning, but as the day progressed, the bass became more active. Fishing with shaky heads, they caught around 12 bass in 5ft-8ft of water. For the day they caught several dozen bass (mostly of which came during the last 5 hours of sunlight). During that time, it appears the bigger fish were active. Today I fished with Michael and Michaela Bass. This was Michael’s fourth time out with me, each time we have a blast together! Today we fished for crappie and had a pretty good day. The water has fallen around 4ft, but still has around 6ft to go. Fishing with live bait and jigs in 15ft-25ft of water, we caught around 30 crappie with 13 keepers! We did not have numbers of fish, but we did have some monsters. Below is Michael holding up two 14″ slabs! Thanks for another great trip guys! Today I fished from 9:00am-1:00pm with Jim Craft from Hendersonville, TN. Jim has recently retired from the work force and is looking for new hobbies. After purchasing a boat, he hired me to show him some tips and techniques on Old HIckory Lake. Today we fished with jigs, C-Rigs and crankbaits in depths ranging from 6ft-15ft. For the day we caught around 8 bass with serveral decent ones. Thanks for a great time on the water Jim! See you in July!
Today BCGS Guide Don Jarvis fished with the Blondas. Fishing for bass they had an okay day, catching several bass on shaky heads, along with a few crappie here and there. Fishing for bass, we had a great trip with a mixed big of around 20 large, small and spotted bass. All fish were caught in 4ft-14ft of water on jigs and shaky heads. With the lake 6ft above summer pool and rising, they had to change their patterns to catch fish. Priest is up around 6ft and rising fast. While I was on the lake fishing for only 3 hours the lake rose 8in. Four Corners parking lot filling up with water. Fishing for crappie and bass, they had a great trip with over 30 crappie, including 13 keepers and several bass, including this 4 pounder. Glad to see that you guys had such a great trip!Today I fished in the Fishers of Men tournament on Old Hickory Lake. My partner and I caught around 15 bass and had a 5 fish limit for just under 10lbs. We finished in 8th place. All off our fish were caught on jigs and crankbaits in 4ft-14ft of water. My second trip with Jake and Dana from Franklin, TN. This was our second time out together. The wind threw us around all day, making it hard to fish. We were able to find a few less windy coves, where we caught some giant crappie. We ended up with over 25 crappie, including 11 keepers. Thanks for another great time guys. See you in the summer!Yesterday I started the morning with John and Miles from Rhode Island. This was a graduation gift for Miles, who will be graduating from high school soon. Fishing for crappie and bass, we had an okay day. The first few hours we caught several crappie and small bass. The last couple hours the wind picked up and it made it hard to fish effectively, but still managed to catch a few here and there. For the day, we ending up around 10 keepers. The black crappie are the most beautiful color this time of year…..there is nothing like watching a big black crappie surface the water. The water has risen over 5ft and the water clarity is poor, but we were able to find some active fish! During the 4 hours we fished, we caught several bass and over 20 crappie! It appears the fishing is pretty good and it will only get better with the high temperature on the way!Monday and Tuesday I continued fishing with Jess Carr. Monday the fishing was tough, we caught 8 fish with one 3lb largemouth. Yesterday we got’em good! We caught over 35 bass, fishing 2ft-6f of water. The first several hours were tough, but the last few hours made the trip. Casting crankbaits and jigs, they managed to catch around 15 largemouth bass. Happy to see you guys had such a good time…..can’t wait to get out with you tomorrow!Yesterday I fished in the Fishers of Men tournament out of Fate Sanders Marina. This was a team tournament, but unfortunately my partner was out of town so I had to fish by myself. It was a pretty good day, I had a lot of big bites in the morning, but as the day progressed the bites slowed down. I finished 4th with 14.40lbs (4 keepers)! I used 12lb Fight Line on crankbaits and jigs in the tournament and I have to admit, I do not worry about my line breaking any more. This stuff is tough and has proven to me why it needs to be on my reels!Friday I fished with Jim and Cindy from Wisconsin. Fishing for bass and crappie we had a good day with over 30 crappie including 10 keepers and around a dozen bass. All fish were caught on topwater, crankbaits, jigs and minnows. Today was a coaching trip for Harry on how to find crappie and bass and understand some of the many variables of fishing that go into success on the water. During this trip we really put Fight Line to the test and I have to say that this is some of the toughest line I have ever used. We were getting snagged on stumps left and right and almost every time the 6lb test line would straighten out the hook! I lowered my retying percentage by at least 75%!Today I fished with Pete and Randy from Sparta, TN. Fishing for crappie we had a good day. The morning was a little tough trying to find fish in the muddy water, but once we moved to clearer water the bite was better. For the day we caught around 40 crappie including 15 keepers. We were also able to find some bass schooling and enjoy catching them for the last hour. Fishing for bass we caught and released around 10 largemouths. All fish were caught shallow on crankbaits…no big fish today. This was Pascel’s first time fishing in his entire life! I took him to a few areas that the crappie have been biting consistently. We were able catch around a dozen crappie in 3 hours. Trolling with minnows they were able to catch several crappie, white bass and yellow bass. Most species have started their migration into shallow water…..spring fishing appears it is finaly here to stay.Not a bad day on the water considering the freezing temperature and 20mph wind. Caught six, one nice largemouth, few short fish and broke off on a giant smallmouth! After last night’s storm the temperature dropped into the low 40’s and the wind climbed into the upper teens. We had high expectation for the day with the warm rain that dropped in last night, but it appears the cold air temperature gave them lock jaw. In total we caught about half a dozen bass with one nice keeper. The water temperature throughout the lake was between 50-54 degrees. The next few days is forecasting warmer temperatures and the bass should become very active! Thanks for a great time today guys!Today I fished with the Hagman. Fishing for what else, crappie, we caught over 70 crappie, with a total of 38 keepers! We caught 20 before lunch in deep water and then almost 20 more after lunch in shallow water. All fish were caught on jigs and minnows! Yesturday I fished with Chris Murphy from MO. Fishing for bass we found the bite to be quite active. The water temperature was between 48 – 54 degrees and the bass were biting on jerkbaits and rattletraps. For the day we caught around 15 bass with no big keepers, but tons of fun. Fishing for crappie we had a good day! The first half of the day was a little tough, but as the sun warmed up the fish began to bite more. For the day we caught over 50 crappie, including 23 keepers! Catching the crappie was exciting, but not as exciting as watching Scooty reeling in a 5.4lb and 4.5lb in ten minutes!!! Thanks for another great time today guys…..see you in a few weeks! Yesturday I fished with good friend and BCGS guide Ryan Davis. We had an awesome day on the water with over 70 crappie, including 35 keepers!!! We took home the 24 that were over 11″ and released the rest back into the lake. All fish came out of 4ft – 12ft of water on jigs.Today I fished with David from Franklin and RJ from Lavergne, TN. The first couple hours we caught several keepers, but not nearly as many as yesterday. So we moved around and tried a few other areas. Thankfully, we found another area the crappie were schooled up. For the next few hours we caught a ton of fish on both jigs and minnows. After the bite slowed down we started moving around and catching one here and there. For the day we caught over 50 crappie with 29 keepers that weighed 22lbs!!! We had over a dozen slabs around 1.5lbs and lost one well over 2lbs right at the boat! We started the day bass fishing and after 2 hours and zero bites, we set down our bass rods and picked up our crappie rods. We fished a few ledges and brushpiles with little success, so we heading to a new location where we caught over 30 crappie, including 19 giant keepers(that weighed over 14lbs total)! All fish were caught between 6ft – 12ft on minnows and jigs. Today I fished with the one and only Hagman! After finding some good crappie the other day, Jerry and I decided to head out and see if we could get him a stringer of crappie. We fished from 9am – 4pm and reeled in fish almost the whole time we were out. We caught around 100 fish…..75 crappie, incuding 21 keepers! The crappie were biting in shallow water in some places and deep water at others. All of our fish were caught on minnows and jigs. Thanks for a great start to the 2011 season Jerry! My frist trip was with David and Brad from just east of Vancover, Canada. I had a blast with these two guys catching over 25 fishing, including 10 keepers! We found our fish both shallow and deep on minnows and jigs! Thanks for a great time on the water guys!second trip was with Brad and Lisa Wiltz. Brad is a regular of mine that called me just when I got home from my first trip. He wanted to know if I could take him and his wife out in the beautiful weather from the remaing of the day. I instantly made a few changes in my schedule, put the truck in gear and headed back to the lake. I knew that we would catch some and have a good time, but the results left with smiles larger than we could imagine. During the hours on the lake we caught over 40 fish with 16 giant keepers!!! Our best was a 1.5lb black crappie! Thanks for a great time guys, I really enjoy our time on the water together. See ya in a few weeks! Another day in heaven. Today was wet, cold and tough, but I need not leave until I captured a few…..around 15!
Today I headed out for a relaxing day of fishing. My intentions were to crappie fish all day, but the water was still a little stained where I wanted to fish so I crappie fished for a little while and then picked up my bass rods. The bite was pretty good with over a dozen bass and crappie all caught on soft plastics and minnows!
